A trip to wild Oregon

| Wednesday, July 8, 2009

So over the holiday weekend Dea and I (along with other people) went down to Oregon.
We got to visit with Dea's dad, and see the farm that he runs.
We got to go to the Tillamook chees factory (they make ice cream too).
It was a lot of fun.

Here are a few of the pics - clicking on the pictures will take you to a photo gallery.

Quarter is Almost Over :(

We covered a lot of different topics. Our big assignment was to document a Global issue on a local level. This was a group assignment where the team had to pick a topic and then take photographs that illustrated the issue. Our group decided on the ramifications of abusing our natural resources. Overall I think the book turned out good, but it lacked a human element. Anyway, you can view (and even purchase) the book here :

Part of our final was to come up with a collection of 20 of our favorites.
Here is the album (some of these you have seen already).

Stuff I learned

HDR (High Dynamic Range)
An HDR picture is created by taking a series of bracketed shots and then combining them using Photoshop or Photomatix. The end result is an image where all points (shadows and highlights) have detail.

3D
You probably know what a 3D image is - it was surprising how simple these were. You will need 3D glasses (you know the really cool ones have red film over one eye and blue over the other) to view these properly.

Composite
Composite is kind of a general term that can apply to various techniques.
I tried a couple.

This first technique is a depth of field composite. You take multiple exposures changing the focus depth at each one. This subject isn't very effective for this technique. The desired end result is a picture that appears in focus front to back.

This second composite is more a "classic" composite where you take a series of pictures moving your subject in each (in this case me) and then blending them all together to create a single image in which your subject appears multiple times.

This third composite was mostly for fun. The assignment was to photoshop ourselves into a picture of with a celebrity. I decided to photoshop myself into a picture with probably one of the most famous people ever.

So that is pretty much it.
